SCHOOL POLICIES

School rules

  • Treat everyone with respect, kindness and consideration.
  • Tell the truth.
  • Take care of personal and school property.
  • Take care of our school environment and keep everywhere litter free.
  • There are times to speak and times to be quiet.

Attendance & Punctuality
It will be very important that children attend regularly and punctually. If your child will be unable to attend due to illness, the school will need to be informed via e-mail. For any other absence an AFCOS (authorisation for a child out of school) form will need to be completed online. School will start at 08:30 and members of staff will be on duty from 08:15 to take responsibility for children on the school site. Children should not arrive before 08:15 when the entrance doors will be opened. The school will not be able to take responsibility for children before this time.

School Uniform
Details will be published in due course.

PE and Games Kit
Details will be published in due course.

Medicines in school
We will not normally be able to undertake to administer medicines in school. If, however, there are special circumstances, we will do our best to assist.

Valuables
We do not allow MP3/4 players, iPods, mobile phones, and portable game consoles etc at the school for two main reasons. Firstly, problems arise when these items go missing. Secondly, we wish to encourage children to concentrate in class and to develop their interpersonal and play skills at break and lunch times. In our experience, the aforementioned items are not appropriate for a school environment.

Jewellery
In general there is no need for jewellery to be worn. This rule is based on health and safety grounds as there are risks associated with the wearing of jewellery particularly in relation to earrings. However we do allow the wearing of stud earrings though these should be taken out for PE and swimming. There are also the problems that arise when valuable items brought into school are lost.

General Appearance
Children should wear full school uniform and have the correct kit for PE sessions. Nail varnish should not be worn in school.

Complaints Procedures
If you have a concern or complaint we would like to hear about it. We welcome suggestions for improving our work in school. Be assured that no matter what you wish to tell us, our support and respect for you and your child in school will not be affected in any way. Please tell us of your concern as soon as possible. It is difficult for us to investigate properly an incident or problem that happened some time ago.

Most concerns and complaints can be sorted out quickly by speaking with your child's class teacher. However, if you have a complaint that you feel should be considered directly by the head teacher, you can contact him straightaway if you prefer. It is usually best to discuss the problem face to face. You may need an appointment to do this and you can make one by emailing or ringing the school. You can take a friend or relation with you to this appointment if you wish.

All staff will make every effort to resolve your problem informally. They will make sure that they understand what you felt went wrong and they will explain their own actions to you. They will ask what you would like the school to do to put things right. Of course this does not mean that in every case they will come round to your point of view but it will help both you and the school to understand both sides of the question. It may also help prevent a similar problem arising again.

If you are dissatisfied with the teacher's initial response (or with the head teacher's initial reaction if he has already been involved) you can make a complaint to the Chair of the Board of Governors. This should be made in writing. You can contact him via the school office.
